1,000 youth to benefit from 50 boats, 50 outboard engines

One thousand youth of Sierra Leone drawn from seven districts across the country are set to benefit from fifty outboard engines, fifty local fishing boats and all related fishing accessories as part of the Youth in Fisheries project.

The total cash for the outboard engines amounts to 4,619,840.00. the project is set to start in August 2023.

The project is in line with contributing to the job creation commitment made by His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio in Page-31 of the New Direction People’s Manifesto, which seeks to provide the enabling space for direct involvement of youth in Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Value Chain.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs through the Youth in Fisheries Project has announced that it has received funds from the Government of Sierra Leone and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) amounting to

Four Million Six Hundred and Nineteen Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Leones as counterpart support to procure fifty outboard engines to support 1,000 young people engaged in active fishing across 7 costal districts of Kambia, Port Loko, Pujehun, Bonthe, Moyamba and the Western Rural and Western Urban.

30% advance payment has been disbursed and 40% progress payment amounting to Three Million Two Hundred and Thirty-Three Eight Hundred and Eighty-Eight Leones for the procurement of 50 outboard engines.
