The leaderships of sixteen registered political parties in Sierra Leone have agreed to work together for peace, unity and national cohesion.
The leaders met over the weekend in Freetown where the held an Inter-Party Dialogue.
The Inter-Party Dialogue Committee was established out of resolution five of the Agreement for National Unity signed by the Government of Sierra Leone and the All Peoples Congress (APC) to institutionalise an inter-party framework.
These political parties also discussed the Terms of Reference for the Inter Party Dialogue Committee.
Before agreeing on actions points to be taken immediately, the National Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party, Umaru Napoleon Koroma and the Deputy National Secretary General of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Osman Abdel Timbo took the podium and read the joint press statement signed by both parties condemning hate speech and violence.
The 16 parties agreed to popularise the Joint Press Statement signed by the SLPP and APC condemning hate speech and violence and hold joint outreach programme using radio and TV amongst others.
The leaders of the political parties present further committed themselves to peace and to do all such that will promote national cohesion and political stability.
However, the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party has informed the Public that it has withdrawn from the Tripartite Agreement due to the refusal of the SLPP Government representatives at the Committee to continue discussions with their APC counterparts on the verification of the results as announced by Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (EC-SL), including the release of disaggregated votes by polling station.
