34yr-Old Man Docked for Attempted Rape

He is said to have physically assaulted and attempted to rape a fifteen years old girl (name withheld) on 29^th December 2018 at Waterloo in the outskirts of Freetown.

The alleged rapist is charged with the offences of Meeting a Child for Sexual Purpose, contrary to Section (23) sub Section (1a) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012, and Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, which also negates Section (47) of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861.

Led in evidence by the State Prosecutor, V. E. A. Kabbia the witness, Dr. Alusine Juana testified that he is a medical doctor attached to the Government Hospital at Macauley Street in Freetown. He told the court that he recalled the incident of 29^th December 2018 and that on the date in question, he carried out a medical examination on the victim and observed that the victim was alert, normal and showed no signs of rehydration.

According to the witness, Dr. Alusine Juana, at the conclusion of his medical examination, he found out that there were signs of bruises on the victim’s upper limbs of both hands, and that after questioning the victim, she disclosed that the accused person, Chernor Amadu Wurie Keita physically assaulted and attempted to rape her.

The witness made it crystal clear that he never conducted vaginal examination and pregnancy test on the victim, and that his external examination findings were later put into a report, which he produced and tendered in evidence.

He further told the court that at the conclusion of his medical examination, he observed that the victim was physically assaulted with an impression of an attempted rape.

The State Prosecutor closed her case by tendering the accused person’s committal warrant, after preliminary investigation was done at the lower court.

Both the State prosecutor, V. E. A. Kabbia and Counsel for the accused person, Cecilia Tucker assured the court that, they would submit their addresses to the court on the next adjourned date, after the accused person had told the court through his legal representative that he relied on his statement to police, rather than call witness or witnesses.

The matter comes up again on Monday 11^th November this year.
