The Director General of the Electricity and Water Regulatory Commission, (EWRC), Emmanuel Mannah, has said that the government of President Julius Maada Bio seeks to provide electricity for all citizens irrespective of their background.

Addressing journalists during the weekly government press briefing in the conference room of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation at Tower Hill, Freetown, he informed that EWRC came into being as a result of the unbundling of the energy sector that created two distinct institutions (EGTC and (EDSA)) to handle generation and distribution respectively.

“EWRC monitors the operations of EDSA because there are established terms and conditions for quality electricity  supply,” Mr Mannah explained.

He furthered that they set the rate which EDSA sells electricity to the public, saying the public is always adequately informed about the activities of the utilities under their purview.

“The people too want the best of services but when you tell them to pay some of them frown. The utilities also may want to increase price without providing efficient service to the people. That is where we as regulator come in to ensure everyone plays their part in getting a satisfactory outcome. We are in between serving both government interest and that of the people,” the EWRC boss averred.

He concluded his statement by assuring value for money in terms of service delivery to the public.
