The Foundation for Rural and Urban Transformation (FoRUT) works to ensure that government’s policies have a positive impact on citizens across the country, especially the poor and most vulnerable. This is normally done through capacitating communities to exercise their rights and fulfill their responsibilities with focus on areas like alcohol, drugs and development, child rights and gender equality. As part of its mandate, the organization has commenced its stakeholders meeting on plans and budgets for three operational districts namely Western Area, Port Loko and Moyamba. While speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner of the ACC praised the organization for its work especially in contributing to the fight against corruption thorough its activities. He went on to say they are happy to partner with FoRUT in achieving their objectives but warned much cannot be achieved in a corrupt environment. He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to fighting corruption and encouraged FoRUT to continue its activities while ensuring that citizens hold government accountable.
Speaking on the relevance of the meeting, the Executive Director FoRUT, Boi-Jeneh Jalloh said the meeting was to help recipients of the various FoRUT projects be aware of the results of the project; how they intend to implement the projects; coupled with their engagement and involvement in the projects. She also said this will help them hold FoRUT accountable within the five years’ tenure of the project.
She mentioned that they are interested in the impact of the project in the different communities they are operating and called on the stakeholders to send feedbacks and ensure they take ownership of the project. Some of the activities in the newly-approved projects involves working with school children to know their rights; be productive especially in monitoring the free quality education, and help raise awareness in their different schools.
Some of the stakeholders expressed appreciation for the project and asked that FoRUT continue to engage them for the success of the project.
