Speaking on the role of drivers and riders at the Lorry Park, Post Office Road, Magburaka, ACC Public Education Officer AbdulaiSaccoh said, their contribution to the socio-economic development of the country cannot be overemphasized due to the creation of jobs and provision of sustained livelihood. Saccoh stated that they are the engine of growth noting that the movement of humans and goods to the various locations would be nearly impossible without them. The Public Education Officer assured his audience of ACC’s determination to strengthen its relationship with them and make the traffic sector a bribe free zone.
Saccoh notified his audience of their roles in the PNB campaign such as: adherence to the law, desist from obtaining fake licenses, demanding receipt for every payment at the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority offices, abstaining from paying bribes and booking fees, reporting cases of soliciting to ACC and avoid reckless driving. He registered his dissatisfaction over the attitude of some of the Union members who have chosen to remain lawless and put the profession into disrepute. The Public Education Officer entreated the Union Executive to imbibe the values of transparency and accountability in the use of Union funds.
ACC Public Education Officer, Abdul K. Bangura described the engagement as a demonstration of ACC’s commitment to strengthen the already existing partnership with riders and drivers. Bangura stated that the meeting was intended to remind members of both unions of their roles in the PNB campaign and to solicit their support. The Public Educator gave an overview of the PNB campaign noting that it empowers citizens to report incidents of bribery they experience daily, in any of the PNB targeted MDAs. He explained the PNB reporting mechanism using the PNB 515 toll free line for all networks, the mobile application in Krio, Temne and Mende and the website; www.pnb.gov.sl.
Earlier, representatives from the unions lauded the effort of the Commission and called on their memberships to adhere to ACC precautions, and to always report bribery wherever it takes place.
