ACC Nails Drivers’ Union President

In general, corruption is a form of dishonesty or criminal activity undertaken by a person or organization entrusted with a position of authority, often to acquire illicit benefit. Corruption may include many activities including bribery and embezzlement, though it may also involve practices that are legal in many countries.

A member of the National Executive Council who doubles as Informal Sector Commander, Papa Koroma on behalf of his followers called for zero tolerance to corruption in the driving sector. Mr. Koroma called on their executive to be transparent and accountable to its members and appealed for the intervention of the Ministry of Labor into what he described as “anarchy in the Drivers’ Union.”

On behalf of the National President of the Motor Drivers’ Union, the Vice President of the union David Conteh advised his union members to exercise restraint and go by the rule of law should they have any grievance, citing a recent court order which he said put an injunction to intimidation among the executive and the ordinary union members. He used the opportunity to urge the Transport and Aviation Minister Kabineh Kallon to intervene for a speedy resolution of the matter in order not to affect the work and progress of the union.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Sheika Turay warned aggrieved members of the Motor Drivers and General Transport Workers Union against illegal procession and ordered the lead protester to disperse the crowd.
