Alfred John Sandy, Principal of the Centenary United Methodist Junior Secondary School, New Gerihun Road, Bo District was charged on two counts of misappropriation of public funds and abuse of office.
Mr. Alfred J. Sandy on diverse dates between 1st January 2009 and 31st December 2011 at Bo, misappropriated the sum of Twenty Eight Million, Two Hundred and Eighty Thousand Leones (Le. 28,280,000) being funds intended to benefit school children under the Girl Child School Fees Refund Programme.
He pleaded guilty on count one, Misappropriation of Public Funds and the prosecution offered no evidence on the 2nd count of Abuse of Office.
The court ordered the convict to pay the money he misappropriated as restitution to the Commission within one week from the date of conviction, and fined the sum of Le.30, 000,000 to be paid within six months. Failing to pay, he will serve a jail term of three (3) years.
The State was represented by Nigel B.E Davies Esq., and Adrian B.C Samuels Esq., and the convict by A.M Bangura Esq.
The Commission reiterates that, it will at all times continue to strengthen the fight against corruption and will go after petty and grand corruption nationwide.
