Prof. Thompson encouraged them to do their best when they eventually found their way to the job market, noting that it was a global marketplace and international standards and best practices must be met. “This year’s ceremony is well-organized and you students have behaved yourselves well, compared to the last convocation”, he noted.
Over 1,000 students from the university graduated from various educational disciplines among them in the Arts, Engineering, Sciences, Social Sciences, Applied Accounting, Business Administration, Financial Services, Information Systems, Public Sector Management, Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy and Nursing.
Acting Provost of the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, COMAHS, Dr. Mohamed Samai, said the convocation ceremony offered a huge sense of fulfillment to the graduates at the end of that part of their academic struggles.
“You should therefore live up to your oaths and pledges in various professional careers” he said, adding that despite the challenges faced by the administration of the University, they were able to come this far.
He said: “As a Provost of COMAHS, it has not been an easy task. I was faced with a series of challenges but with a strong force of dedicated university personnel, we were able to initiate development programs, introduce new short-term courses and a curriculum that gives a facelift to the college”.
Dr. Samai reiterated that the Ebola virus exposed the weakness in the medical sector and also killed prominent medical doctors whose loss was a heavy blow to the people of Sierra Leone.
