Africell, Da Yu Mining Erect Network Pole

He said the company has also engaged in road infrastructural development to connect villages around the mines. Da yu Mining which has a large-scale mining license is located close to Masumbrie, Marandand Kalmaron villages in Simira Chiefdom, and currently employs over 300 Sierra Leoneans to construct and develop a gold mine.

“The people were deprived of mobile network facility and they had to travel from their villages to either Magburaka town or elsewhere to communicate to family, friends and business partners,” said Daffae, adding that, “as a responsible company that believes in not only addressing the welfare of the community people, we decided to invest in building the road infrastructure for Africell to construct a network pole that can provide quality mobile network for many villages and towns.”

Asked why the huge amount on such a project, he said, “we know that Africell telecommunication is a private business, but we want our people to enjoy the same facility similar to those living in other towns and cities.”

In a very jubilant and joyful mood, residents of Masumbirie, Gbafaya, Maranda, Kalmaron and many other villages celebrated the historic moment of network coverage. The town chief of Mansumbirie, Pa Sanna Tholley said, “I am extremely happy that the long unimaginable dream has been achieved through Dayu Mining Company.”

He added that there was no mobile phone network in over twenty villages in both Kafe and Simira chiefdoms, since mobile telecommunication was first introduced in the country in 2003. He said they used to either travel far distances or climb mountain tops and trees to make phone calls.

Chief Tholley stated that: “I can stand in front of my court barray now to make a phone call to my friends and family members in Freetown and overseas.”

The Chief commended Dayu management for providing jobs for his people and appealed that more jobs be created youth unemployment is still high in the entire district.
