Presidential candidates for the two leading political parties in Sierra Leone’s June 24, 2023 election, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara of the All People’s Congress (APC) Party have called on their membership and supporters to be calm after the announcement of the results by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (EC-SL).

On his twits, President Bio wrote: “A heartfelt thank you to my fellow Sierra Leoneans for heeding to the call for Saful Elections across our beloved Land That We Love. We have yet again shown the resilience and fortitude that defines us as a great nation. As we await the official announcement of results from the EC-SL, I encourage everyone to remain calm, keep faith in the systems and continue to preserve our peace and unity. God bless Sierra Leone and her people! SierraLeoneDecides2023…”

On his twit, Dr. Samura Kamara wrote: “A heartfelt thank you to the nation and every single voter who made their voice heard in our presidential, parliamentary, and local elections! Your participation is what fuels our democracy, and together, we’ll work towards a brighter future for all. Let’s unite and move forward! Thank You Voters United We Stand…”

Sierra Leone’s multi-tier elections conducted on June 24th 2023 had thirteen presidential candidates on the ballot papers but with endorsement by these parties for the Sierra Leone People’s Party and All people’s Congress party respectively, the two main party became the only focus for locals and international bodies.

President Bio, after casting his votes, encouraged people to return home and wait for the announcement of official results from the EC-SL.

Dr. Samura Kamara, after casting his vote, thanked the people for exercising their constitutional right and further called for transparency in the counting and announcing of election results.

The tallying of results from polling centres continues today at regionally offices to be forwarded to the Freetown International Conference Centre where various electoral bodies, including the electoral Commission have set up situational hubs.
