Alie, who comes from a Muslim background with his father, Hassan Fofanah being a strong Muslim figure in the society, is said to have committed one of the worse crimes by getting himself involved in gay life.
The act, which is one among many of the violations of the laws of Sierra Leone, could result to 14 years imprisonment together with hard labour when convicted.
Police say on 11th May, 2021, some gay friends held a party for their membership, where Alie and some of his male gay friends were caught having sex.
Some of the gays were arrested and detained by the Police and community youth, whiles Alie and some other of his gay colleagues managed to escape the scene uncaught.
The incident lasted for over five hours as throng of youth within the area descended to either set Alie and Bassie alive for what they described as sacrilege against their customs, traditions and religious beliefs or teach them the worse lesson of their lives.
Other relatives and community member knowing that Alie’s father is a well-known Muslim leader within the community and also a well-respected personality, did not spare him as they all denounced the act whilst calling for punishment with others suggesting death.
Reports say few weeks later, they were spotted in the provinces but all attempts to search for them proved futile.
A legal luminary, Ibrahim Mansaray when contacted to give his legal advice on the issue told this medium that anybody arrested and charged to court and found guilty for offences related to Gay, bisexual and lesbianism will go for life imprisonment for a period of 14 years backed with hard labour.
