N’fah Alie Conteh has finally released 100 percent of the results which put the main opposition SLPP slightly ahead of the ruling APC; the main opposition candidate, Rtd. Brig Julius Maada Bio earning 43% while the ruling party’s candidate Samura Kamara polled 42% of the total national votes.
Because both parties failed to poll the constitutional 55% threshold for a clear win, NEC has declared 27th March, 2018 as slated for the presidential runoff.
Due to initial complaints sent to NEC by various political parties recounts were done in several areas but so far, the results have not been challenged in any major way by any political parties. Meanwhile, NEC has confirmed that it is well prepared logistically and otherwise to conduct the 27th March, 2018 presidential run-off.
International and national elections observers described 7th March, 2018 elections as free, fair, credible and transparent.
