 He is also charged with the offence of Larceny, contrary to Section (2) of the Larceny Act of 1916. The accused person Hassan Sheriff allegedly stole another GMC vehicle with Registration Number: AJK 667 on Sunday 6 May 2018, at Waterloo in the Freetown Judicial District of the Republic of Sierra Leone, valued at seventy million Leones.
Police further alleged that on the above-mentioned date the accused person also carted away vehicle spare parts and engine valued at twenty four million, five hundred thousand Leones.
He was denied bail by Magistrate Santigie Bangura who ordered that the accused person Hassan Sheriff be remanded at the maximum state detention centre in the west of Freetown.
The matter was prosecuted by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Eric Deen. The matter comes up again.
In an unrelated development, one Emmanuel Bobson Nylander of 14 Williams Street, Portee in the east of Freetown has been incarcerated at the Male Correctional Centre at Pademba Road for the offence of Human Trafficking, contrary to law.
The State alleged that the accused person trafficked nine Sierra Leoneans to Libya via the Republic of Guinea back in December 2017.
He is alleged to have told police that the nine Sierra Leoneans in question died in a road accident, while they were traveling to Libya, but that he could not produce any picture or any evidence to show the court including parents of the nine Sierra Leoneans about their whereabouts which is still unknown.
The Africa Young Voices confirmed that the matter was investigated by officers attached to the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) and the case and enquiry file was sent to the Law Officers Department in Freetown for legal advice.
Investigation further reveals that up to date, the Law Officers Department has still not released the case and enquiry file relating to the nine Sierra Leoneans trafficked from Sierra Leone via the Republic of Guinea to Libya; or give advice on whether the matter should be charged to court or discarded.
The matter was prosecuted by lawyer Pious Hemor Sesay of the Centre for Development, Documentation and Research Centre, while the defendant Emmanuel Bobson Nylander was represented by barrister Musa Beretay.
