U.S Embassy sources confirmed to the AYV that Fonti is among the top twelve young leaders of Sierra Leone and the top one thousand in the African continent (as identified by the U.S State Department in 2016), thus his selection for the 2016 Mandela Washington Fellowship to be held in the United States of America.
Fonti is expected to leave the shores of Sierra Leone on the 17th June 2016 for New York City (Wagner College) to commence a six-week course on civic leadership. The course would be followed by a three-day presidential summit to be hosted in Washington D.C by the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama.
“I feel blessed and honored to have such a unique opportunity made possible by the U.S State Department. I can only hope and pray now that this fellowship will serve as an opportunity to support my passion and aspirations in the media and children’s issues,” Fonti commented.
The AYV Management has expressed elation over such an opportunity given to one of their dedicated management staff.
In Sierra Leone, Fonti would be leaving the shores alongside Asmaa James Kamara of Radio Democracy and ten other emerging African leaders.
