It went on that on Tuesday 20th February 2018, a convoy of SLPP supporters entered Kamalo, the hometown of the APC party’s flagbearer and unleashed mayhem on the town.
The letter went on to explain that the SLPP forcefully placed their campaign materials on structures owned and erected by Dr. Samura Kamara including the cinema run by his nephew Mitchell Kargbo, adding that on being warned that these are private property and that they should refrain from these provocative acts, they moved straight to Dr. Samura Kamara’s mother’s house raining insults and tearing down posters of the APC’s presidential candidate.
In addition, the APC complained that following that, the SLPP’s convoy proceeded to the town’s Court Barry where they destroyed posters of Dr. Samura Kamara and that they mercilessly beat a young man known as Sorie B. Kamara aka S.B.K.
At some points the letter went on, the convoy retreated about 200 meters off the town and laid an ambush along the Makeni-Kamakwie highway where they systematically stopped and attacked vehicles plying that route and that in one instance, they stopped a son of a Regent Chief Abu Kamara riding a motorbike, tied up and beat him mercilessly.
The APC went on that the SLPP attackers were on the verge of pouring petrol and burning him up when the police, led by Detective Inspector Brima Munu rescued him, resulting to him being admitted at the Kamakwie hospital.
In another instance, the complaint letter went on the SLPP guys fired gunshots and wounded one Albert Bangura, who is currently hospitalised in Makeni town. Furthermore, one of the convoy’s vehicles knocked down one Momodu Sesay aka M.O.D as they were retreating from the town, and Momodu is also hospitalised in Kamakwie town.
The letter concluded that the APC strongly condemns the violent attack on the people of Kamalo and other SLPP acts of violence and intimidation countrywide and implored the PPRC to further investigate these acts of violence by the SLPP and take appropriate action; caution the Sierra Leone’s People Party to abide by the rules and regulations governing political parties especially their conduct during campaign period and above all remind the SLPP of their obligations to ensure a violence free campaign and ensure that the upcoming elections are held in a peaceful atmosphere.
