With all desperate moves to gain political popularity and sympathy from the Industry, presidential candidates for the APC, the SLPP and the NGC, Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio and Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella have overnight transformed themselves to become employees of the Industry.
The three gentlemen are frequently being spotted around town holding meetings with Okada riders, and claiming that they were also Okada riders during their school days. Some of them are even claiming that they used to involve in commercial okada riding during their school days in order to raise money to meet their academic and social expenses.
According to many, it is evidently clear that the claims made by the politicians are just part of the numerous propagandas used to fool, use and misuse young people during electoral periods to win their votes.
Many are also aware that Sierra Leone inherited commercial okada riding from Nigeria just some six, seven years ago and during then, none of these three politicians were still in school. This brings the question when, how and where were they riding okada to raise money to pay their school fees?
There has been a clarion call for the Okada Industry to pay attention and beware of gimmicks played by African politicians, especially those in Sierra Leone when they want power.
It has always been and will continue to be the same politicians that will be chasing okada riders there and then all across the country once they are in governance, as evident in the APC Palo Conteh reign as Minister of Internal Affairs.
