On Monday this week, the Deputy Minister of Information and Communication, Cornelius Deveaux, the use of hate speech by politicians and supporters of the various political parties would not be tolerated this time round in order to ensure the peace and security of citizens at large and the country in general.
He went on to state that as far as he and his APC party is concerned, they are doing everything within their power to ensure that their supporters keep and maintain the peace during this year’s electoral process. He added that the APC is compliant as far as NEC regulations go and that the APC is also doing all in its power to imbibe and inculcate tolerance of other political parties’ views.
Also speaking to AYV on the same subject yesterday was SLPP PRO Lawrence Lahai Leema. He maintained that as far as the SLPP is concerned, they are a disciplined party whose members frown on any form of violence including hate speech. He added that despite elections, the SLPP is always a political party which eschews violence and preaches peace, tolerance and respect for variant views.
