All People’s Congress (APC) re-elected Member of Parliament for Karene district, Hon. Mohamed Bangura has taken Oath of Office in the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone.

He said: “I am in Parliament today to take the Oath of Office and I am ready for anything. I won the seat alone and I’m here in parliament alone to serve my people. Taking the oath of office is my constitutional right and I have committed no wrongdoing.”

This is contrary to his Party’s stance to boycott governance for the next 5 years.

The APC Party in a June 30th, 2023 Press Release declared its non-participation in any level of governance, including the legislature and local councils.

The Party further insisted on a rerun of the elections within six months to be overseen by individuals and institutions who will ensure a fair and transparent process.

In the recent elections, the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party secured 81 seats, while the opposition All People’s Congress won 54 out of the total 135 seats.

On Wednesday past, the United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, David Reimer, urged the APC not to boycott the government in a Tweet, but the party refused to budge.
