Armed Robber Sent to High Court

According to the Particulars of Offence the accused person Abdul Turay allegedly committed the said offences on Wednesday 26 April 2017 at the New Maforki Filling Station in Port Loko District in the Northern Province in the Republic of Sierra Leone.

The State alleged that the accused person together with other persons unknown was armed with machetes and a riffle with serial number: UB60A6821 with its magazine containing ammunition.

The alleged robber is said to have robbed Alhaji Bangura, one Itel mobile phone valued at one hundred and twenty thousand Leones with the sum of eight million, five hundred and fifty thousand Leones.

The accused person Abdul Turay together with his accomplice (s) also allegedly robbed Abdul Rahman Bah of one SIERRATEL mobile phone valued at nine hundred and thirty thousand Leones.

The charge sheet further indicated that the accused person robbed one Abdul Hassan Kanu of his wallet containing one hundred thousand Leones, one mobile phone valued at two million, five hundred thousand Leones.

Charges preferred against the accused person further stated that he conspired together with unknown individuals to carry offensive weapons without lawful authority, contrary to section (16) sub section (1) of the Public Order Act (No.46) of 1965.

In his committal address, Magistrate Santigie Bangura informed the court that he has conducted thorough and extensive preliminary investigation into the allegations leveled against the accused person, Abdul Turay and found him wanting for trial in the High Court of Sierra Leone.

He told the court that the evidence adduced indicated that the accused person even confessed to the Police that he was persuaded by his friend to carry arms and rob the various complainants, but that the friend was killed in a day light robbery incident at Mercury International offices at Wellington in the eastern part of Freetown.

Magistrate Santigie Bangura concluded that the prosecution proved its case beyond all reasonable doubt, by adducing sufficient and convincing evidence against the accused person during the preliminary investigation stage in respect of the offences charged.
