SRSG Chambas was speaking at the Bintumani III National Dialogue Forum on Democratic Consolidation for Peace and National Cohesion which was held over the weekend in Freetown where he said: “I am honoured to be here today, on behalf of the United Nations, and I would like to commend everyone – not least His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and the Honourable Vice-President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh – for their continuous commitment to sustaining peace in Sierra Leone, including by promoting this national conference. I equally commend His Excellency for his stated commitment to promote national cohesion and decrease political tension, just as I commend efforts exercised not least by the Honourable Vice-President, under His Excellency’s leadership, to diffuse tensions and resolve disputes in a number of communities across the country. These efforts are an indication of the Government’s commitment to the common cause of ensuring sustained peace and stability in the country and in the West Africa sub-region.”
