Explaining further on reasons why the hajj-gate investigations took such a long period to be concluded, our source say the Commission has been very much professional and careful in scrutinizing the accused persons.
He said each of the accused whose names came up during the investigations got their passport books confiscated and were invited in person to come to the Commission and be questioned on their real names, places of birth, dates of birth, parents’ names, prominent people originating from their places of birth and prominent locations and properties situated at their places of birth among other things.
This process according to our source consumed so much time, especially in going through the accused persons one after the other on separate days and time.
However, our source continues, the investigation process is at its closing stage now and the Commission has already summoned senior Islamic heads and scholars to give recommendations and advice the Commission on its final recommendations in the report that will be soon handed over to government at the end of the investigations.
He said currently, the Commission has returned 5000 passport books earlier confiscated at the start of the investigations to those accused persons scrutinized, with more to follow soon.
