The Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency (SLMet) has informed that it has over the past weeks observed through satellite that there has been an increased in dust particles in the atmosphere over Sierra Leone originating from the Sahara Desert and the Sahel region and it has been forecasted that it will continue for some weeks to come.

Also, the Agency said it further observed that there is an increase in the relative humidity and temperature. However, the dry air contains high levels of dust pollutants which causes hazy weather conditions resulting to poor visibility.

In the same vein, it is observed that this trend may continue for some days or weeks to come and based

on these observations, the Agency is encouraging the public especially children, pregnant women, older adults, persons with pre-existing heart and lung disease, to mask up to keep safe in the dusty dry air.

Also, it is advisable to stay hydrated by drinking fluids.

In the same spirit, drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to be very observant and attentive when using the roads, whiles fishermen are also advised to be cautious when going out to sea.
