The latest container is part of the organization’s tradition to ship into the country at least two 40ft containers every year to salvage some of the educational and daily challenges faced by deprived and vulnerable children in various communities in Freetown.
The brain behind these donations is a Dutch woman named Astrid Cornelissen, who has kept the dream and work of his husband alive even after his departure. She is very instrumental in coordinating the goods in Holland to put smiles on the faces of children she may never meet in her lifetime.
Solomon Jarrett, the Project Manager is also very vital in ensuring that these goods and packaged and shipped to Sierra Leone for the children.
While expressing appreciation to Astrid and all others making these items available for donation, the Director of Don’t Forget the Children, A. Bangura disclosed that this consignment of goods include clothes, shoes, chairs, wheelchairs, bed sheets, and many other materials including ‘shoe-boxes’.
He disclosed that the items would be donated to children in deprived communities in Port Loko, starting today, Bombali, Kenema, Pujehun, Koinadugu and the Western Area.
The Media and I.T Manager of Don’t Forget the Children, Ernest Smith disclosed that they shall also be feeding less privilege children in various parts of the country by next week. He further disclosed that a similar consignment of non-food items benefited mainly western area communities late last year.
The donations are being done in partnership with Defence for Children International (DCI), and Don’t Forget the Children’s Co-Director, who is also very instrumental in making this a reality is Rose-Mary Peter.
