Speaking to AYV, Sullay C Kamara, Chairman of the Foundation said they decided to answer to the call of the President as a way creating a healthy environment for the Sierra Leonean populace.
He furthered, “as a responsible Foundation we thought it wise to take up the responsibility in engaging different communities in a form educating and raising awareness on Ebola”.
Kamara added that the Foundation had also provided beneficiaries with some preventive gears as a way of preventing the spread of the Ebola virus.
“we are very much concerned about the health of our people, more especially our young children who are the most vulnerable in this fight. We take it as a challenge by providing funds from the Foundation’s account with support from the Chief Executive Officer,” he explained, adding that Mr. Koroma, the Proprietor had promised to ship some medical equipment from the United States of America.
He said for the past weeks they have been engaging different communities like Pump Line, Aberdeen Road, Cole Farm, Murray Town, Thompson Bay, Dokorty, UN Drive, Bonga Town, Cockrill and Smart Farm and according to him, they will replicate it in other communities.
Mabinty Sesay, a community elder said they were very grateful to the Joseph Umar Deen Foundation for such campaign and the medical materials donated.
She said since the outbreak, this was the first donation they had received without any favor and that the sensitization was really good for them, especially for those of them in deprived communities. She confessed that they had learned a lot about the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
She added that the prevention methods they were taught would help them a lot to be careful on how they should behave and take the necessary precautions in order to prevent the spread of Ebola in their different communities.
