The late Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mathew Moiwa Gbanya, popularly known as Boyka, who was allegedly killed in Makeni city has been laid to rest.
His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has called on the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to investigate and bring to justice those involved in the alleged killing of the ASP.
The president noted that the alleged killing of Boyka should not frighten or kill the spirit of members of the SLP, adding that this should serve as an eye opener for them to re-energise and be more proactive in their duties and further give them zeal to introduce new strategies in policing the state.
He described the perpetrators as cowards and faceless assailants, who cannot challenge Boyka face to face but instead shot him from the back.
He maintained that Boyka was only performing his duty as a police officer when he was allegedly targeted and killed.
“I will not leave the leadership of the Sierra Leone Police alone until you find the culprits and bring them to justice. I implore you all to leave your comfort zones and introduce new tactics to find the perpetrators,” he stressed.
The president called on all citizens to be patriotic and provide information leading to the arrest of the alleged killers of the late police officer so as to enable the police do their job diligently.
The funeral ceremony was also witnessed by Her Excellency the First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, the Leadership of the Sierra Leone Police, family members and a host of other distinguished personalities.
