Queen Jalloh who is now a student of the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology pursuing BA (Hons) in Broadcasting and Journalism said her Campaign is born out of the desire to contribute in ending Sexual Penetration, Rape and Sexual Harassment of women and Girls.

She said the menace which is not only punching a heavy dent on the image of our nation, is also threatening the security and dignity of our Women and Girls, which is a violation of their rights.

Launching the campaign, Queen Oullematu Jalloh told her audience that; “it is scary to say the least that our society is becoming a strange land for women and girls to live with respect. The numbers emanating from the news as to the rate at which girls under 18 are being sexually molested is nothing that should have a place in a decent society like ours. The numbers reported for women whose life go into danger resulting to being rape is scary and should be condemned with every bit of our fibre and from every corner it happens. These barbaric acts should be resisted with every power we have.”

She reiterated the need for women and girls’ choices to be respected. In her exact words she said: “A woman’s No should be understood as No! A girl child should be seen as such and not be treated like some rag whose voice should not be respected. The state actors and every member of our society should see it as a responsibility to continue to provide and create safe spaces for every woman and girl in our society.”

Accompanying with thunderous applause in acknowledgment from the pupils and audience, she re-echoed thus: “Women and girls must be protected by the law and by all, women and girls must be protected from all forms of sexual molestation, women and girls deserve an equal share of a decent living in a decent society and above all, women and girls should not be seen to be threatened off their dignity and security, Protect Her!”

The Protect Her Campaign, is a package that shall cover advocacy on subjects of Rape and Sexual Penetration, Gender Based Violence, Teenage Pregnancy and Early Marriage.

The launch is the start of a series of activities on the subjects starting with school tour to different schools through the end of January.
