AYV’s Sonnie Koroma selected Kwame Karikari Fact-checking fellow

DUBAWA, Africa’s verification and fact-checking platform has selected Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire’s Business Reporter, Mariama Sonnie Koroma, as one of this year’s Kwame Karikari Fact-checking fellows.

Marima, who is a dedicated staff of AYV came in as an intern and later as a fellow to the rank of a reporter because of her hard work. She reports on several other issues besides business and economy.

DUBAWA, Africa’s verification and fact-checking platform, has commenced training for the sixth edition of 2024 Kwame Karikari Fact-checking Fellowship Supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

The call for application was made in January with short listing done from 16th – 19th February 2024. 28 applicants were shortlisted from four countries in West Africa specifically Anglophone (Ghana, Liberia, Gambia and Sierra Leone).

The training for the fellowship started on 26th February and will end on 29th February before the official commencement of the fact-checking fellowship itself on 1st March to August 30th, 2024 where applicant will undergo intense training on fact-checking, misinformation, and disinformation.

The Kwame Karikari Fellowship is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) to respond to the urgent need to amplify media literacy and empower journalists to spread the gospel of information verification to grassroots communities, which are targeted constituencies for political, social, and cultural misinformation and disinformation in the region.
