Bank Governor Threatens to Quit if the ‘Noise’ persists

Share

Dr. Keifala Kallon said the Bank of Sierra Leone does not supply dollars so the only way the present situation can be handled is to export produce because when that is done the exporter is paid in dollars, the most reliable source of income.

He said what led the country to the present economic situation was the lack of incentives for farmers who used to export a lot but had to abandon the trade.

The Governor said he only as a Bank Governor followed the instruction to auction the dollar to expose the weakness of certain people who think that was going to solve the problem.

He said after he tried it more than twice or thrice they now realize that it is not going to work. `

He said he had to listen to the ‘noise’ and if   things continue the way they are he may be tempted to quit his job

The former Economics Professor said he had to return home to take his current job to respond to the calls by his students in the US who always will ask ‘Professor you are here doing well in the class room but the economic situation in your country is nothing to write home about.’

He said otherwise he was an accomplished man having taught for over 30 years in the U.S.
