This, according to the organization’s Eastern Coordinator, Philip Dalton Taylor is enshrined in their constitution which is to render service to less privileged children and help rebrand the country’s image and culture in Spain.
The scholarships award by the organization is in continuation of what they started at their inception in 2012. Despite the ruling government’s free quality education program, some of the beneficiaries will use part of their money to purchase relevant materials they need.
Addressing the beneficiaries Philip Dalton Taylor urged the pupils to be focused and committed in their studies, noting that the organization will continue to pay for pupils that progress to the next class.
He added that they communicated with the different proprietors in the schools to identify children that are vulnerable and unable to pay their fees.
The organization according to him was established in Spain by Sierra Leoneans but now has its main branch in Sierra Leone, adding that the scholarship was awarded to pupils based on their class and need.
“Upon our survey when we visited the schools, we found out that pupils have passion to learn but they have things that are left out and it is slowing the process of their education” he said.
He further said that the schools are community schools that are privately-owned and are struggling for the government to assist them.
Some of the beneficiaries while speaking to AYV commended the organization for the money, citing that some of them are widows and are finding it difficult to pay their children’s fees in addition to taking care of other duties.
They noted that the money is important not because they are vulnerable but because they are fortunate unlike other vulnerable children.
