Mr. Turay disclosed that since they renewed their partnership with Book Aid International in 2016, they have received a total of 146,000 books, established 25 inspiring readers libraries, trained 50 librarians on managing children’s corners for efficient and effective service delivery, designed to give students and new library workers the skills they need to succeed as well as get experienced librarians up to speed on the new development in technology, publishing, and education. The book takes a broad view of all aspects of library work with children, addressing the dramatic and ongoing changes in school and public libraries.
Mr. Turay stressed that the provision of these books is in line with President Maada Bio’s government priorities on human capacity building which is a foundation for the country’s economic and social development. He reiterated that the books are demand driven, carefully chosen to meet our educational curriculum and will be distributed in various universities, schools and the 21 libraries nationwide in the country.
In his remarks, the Chairman Board of the Board, Professor Gbamanja stressed the need of focusing on youth and adults within the lifelong learning framework, to remove the bridge between the literacy, learning and skills development. He stressed that learning is a key to the right for all to education.
Prof. Gbamanja urged the people to utilize the material in order to eliminate a major impediment to learning, especially for parents who could not afford the high cost of training their children in homes.
The program was climaxed with the off-loading of books for later distribution to various schools, colleges, institutions and 21 libraries nationwide.
