Information are that the APC is still disturbed that the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party’s led government has not been fair to them as an opposition since they assumed governance. For this and many other reasons forwarded by the party reports say, the APC National Advisory Committee (NAC) will be meeting shortly to take a final position on whether to boycott the all-important event or not.
Further reports are that the NAC has been under some serious pressure from senior and junior party members urging the party to boycott the Bintumani 3 until President Julius Maada Bio is serious to rule the country democratically.
Concerns raised by the disgruntled APC members include the manner by which the SLPP is mistreating APC MPs in parliament, mistreating former government officials and how the judiciary is mistreating the APC especially relating to election petitions filed against some SLPP MPs, among other burning issues.
However, political analysts who spoke to this medium say despite the APC might have very legitimate reasons forwarded, but boycotting the Bintumani 3 should not be part of their options.
“If only the concerns forwarded by the APC are valid as they believe, the right thing for them to do now is to use the Bintumani meeting to relay these concerns and discuss ways to address them once and for all. Boycotting will be the beginning of the downfall of the APC” an analyst stated.
It can be recalled that during his speech at the State Opening of Parliament past week, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio proposed for a national summit named ‘Bintumani 3’ to be held. The purpose of the conference according to the president is to enable all political parties to sit with their people and promote national cohesion.
