CEFCON ends quiz competition

Executive Director, Climate Change Environment Haja Kaday Sesay said that the quiz competition was to make pupils abreast with issues related to climate change and share what they have learned from the competition. She confirmed that the competition attracted eight schools across the country, most of which are from the provinces. She Added that the effects of climate change are posing serious threat to Sierra Leone.

Madam Sesay confirmed that the quiz competition was one of their strategies to educate the public about climate change. She said together with partners theyhave been able to convince the Constitutional Review Committee to allocate a whole chapter on climate change.

A representative from the meteorological department, Ahmed Kallon said they are ready to give support to organizations that focus on climate change. He said they would ensure all climatic problems are addressed.

Delivering the key note address, Personal Assistant to the deputy minister in the Agriculture Ministry, Abdul Salifu Conteh stated that the fight against climate change was a collective responsibility and called on all Sierra Leoneans to join the fight against climate change.

Other speakers present called on the pupils that took part in the competition as they encouraged the pupils to disseminate the message in their various communities about the effect of climate change. The event was climaxed with certification ceremony as the Loma Secondary in the Koinadugu District emerged victorious of the quiz competition.
