Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Sengeh has engaged the Chairman for Presidential Initiative for Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella and the Minister of Environment, Jiwo Abdulai on climate change.
The three senior statesmen discussed various topics around preserving and protecting the environment including upcoming Global Climate Summits, UNGA and Climate Finance.
They also discussed coordination mechanisms for the Presidential Initiatives including the Feed Salone flagship project. They also explored lessons learned from the Free Quality Education (FQE) flagship that could guide new initiatives.
Chief Minister Dr. Sengeh said: “My job as Chief Minister is to support my bosses, the President and the Vice President, deliver on an ambitious vision for national development. That means I will help remove bottlenecks across government and coordinate on delivery.
“But I must say, my job will be made easier because of the high order or collaboration within and across government agencies. This indeed will be the hallmark of this team President Bio has put together.
“I have also engaged the Ministers of Fisheries and Defense on joint surveillance of our seas; Minister of Tourism and her deputy lay forth some of their vision for tourism and culture, a technical presentation from the national emergency health services (incredible impact on maternal mortality); Minister of Environment and the Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Food, Energy and Environment discuss our strategy and plan for transformation; a summary review from the petroleum Directorate, etc”.
He said watching the rapport between ministers and their deputies, between ministers across ministries, gives him lots of hope, adding that this is a team eager to bring about change, together. “I am absolutely thrilled to help make this vision possible…” he concluded.
