City Council fires 3 staff for corruption

Share

The three staff-Arthur Lewis, Cyrus Mansaray and Lawrence Lansana- were investigated by the ACC for abuse of office and conspiracy to commit a corruption offence. This followed a report by a businessman that the three former Council staff collected money from him to set up a plumbing business on a plot of land belonging to the Council. The businessman erected a makeshift structure on the said land only for it to be demolished by Council few weeks later. During the ACC investigation, all three of them admitted collecting the money from the businessman and failing to account for it to the Council. The three former Council staff were asked to refund monies collected from the businessman and subsequently cautioned by the ACC with a recommendation to FCC that their employment be terminated.

In a letter of termination addressed to each of the three staff and signed by the Acting Chief Administrator Mohamed A.S. Koroma, the Council says the acts of the staff violated the New Human Resource Guidelines for Local Councils and is therefore left with no option but to terminate their services. The letter also urged the three staff to hand over all official property to Council with immediate effect.
