The College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMHAS), the University of Sierra Leone has successfully concluded the matriculation ceremony for the 2020/21 academic year. The ceremony was organised at the Kosoh Town campus on 26th May 2021.
In his welcome remarks, the Deputy Registrar, COMHAS, MundaLebbie told the students that gaining admission to a premier University is an opportunity for career advancement especially in the field of Medicine. He appealed to the students to remain focused and committed throughout their course work.
The University Registrar, Mrs. Olive Barrie informed the students about the legal obligations after signing the University Register, which will make them bonafide members of the University. She said they will take oath during the ceremony which requires them to be obliged to all the rules, regulations and statues governing the conduct of students in the University.
The Deputy Vice-chancellor, COMAHS, Professor Mohamed Samai who also acted as the Vice-chancellor and Principal welcomed the students and further congratulated them on behalf of the VC&P, Brigadier General Professor Foday Shar. The VC&P was unavoidably absent due to pressing assignment at NaCOVERC. Professor Samai described the Administrative structures of the University and the College. He told the students about two very important committees of the University. He said Senate is chaired by the VC&P and it is the highest decision-making committee for all academic matters. The other committee is Court, which is headed by the Chancellor of the University.
The Chairman of Court is the Pro- Chancellor of the University. Court decides all Administrative matters in the University. He told them about the College administration and the functions of some of the units in the College. He encouraged them to be mindful of dress code being that they are all professionals in the making.
He admonished them about the importance of course work throughout their programmes.
The University Marshall, Dr. Fatmata Taqi who chaired the ceremony encouraged everyone to support the students in actualising their aspirations.
