It can be recalled that at a debate organized by the Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire and partners on August 18, 2019 at the institution’s studio, three candidates, of the four vying for the vacant parliamentary seat got the chance of telling voters their plans for the constituency if they are voted for in the upcoming parliamentary by-election.
Save for the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party candidate, candidates from the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Unity Party (UP) and the National Grand Coalition (NGC) spoke no issues affecting the lives of people living in the Constituency.
Prior to the debate, AYV’s Director of News and Current Affairs, Samuel Wise Bangura said the rationale behind the debate is to provide the space for the candidates to articulate their vision, policies and plans in line with the needs of the constituency.
He further said the debate will give eligible voters in the constituency the opportunity to measure the policies and plans of Femi Claudius-Cole, Josephine Jackson, Kadijatu Davies and Ibrahim Kabba.
The vacancy was created following a High Court petition ruling on 31st May, 2019, which ordered a re-run election for the parliamentary seat at the Constituency that was initially won by Khadijatu Davies of the APC.
Meanwhile, the National Electoral Commission (NEC) had assured the country that its staff are all set to conduct a free and fear election tomorrow.
Similarly, parliamentary candidates vying for the re-run seat have also expressed their commitment towards a peaceful election tomorrow.
