Correctional Service Goes Digital

The deputy minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts of OSIWA. He also thanked American Fund and UNDP for supporting the Correctional Service. He used the opportunity to call on the senior management of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service to embrace and support change.

He commended FIX Solution for creating the technological platform for information-sharing within the justice sector, adding that the digital system is an added advantage to properly administer the Correctional Services.

The Director General of Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Sanpha Bilo Kamara, informed his audience that since he assumed office, they have made significant gains. He thanked his members of staff and their development partners for their support towards the project.

He went on to state that he has made some significant improvements in the area of accommodation and has facilitated the rehabilitation of seven correctional facilities in the North, East and South of the country.

The Country Officer OSIWA, Joe Pemagbi, said the system shall help decrease unnecessary incarceration of inmates and protect prison officers and the police.

He said they at OSIWA are impressed with the Correctional Service for reducing crime and creating an enabling environment for inmates to access justice. He noted that the system would greatly help the justice sector with accurate and updated information on inmates.

The Chief Executive Officer of FIX Solution, Sorieba Daffae, informed his audience that they are helping to reduce redundant processes and legacy systems to minimize cost, improve outcomes for inmates and protect their human rights.

He added that FIX Solution is not only transforming the correctional facilities around the country with its modern inmate management solution system but is also addressing the challenges of overcrowding among other issues needing change.
