Goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development and provides access to justice for all and helps build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
According to Mr. Kpaka, peace in the academic perspective looks at things that have to do with human beings; citing human security as the thing people need, ranging from political, social and economic and other things that have to do with welfare.
“This day is very important in the history of the world and Sierra Leone” Kpaka said adding that Sierra Leone faced eleven years civil war which had a toll on the lives of many people and made many homeless.
From the academic perspective and student wings according to Kpaka, they collaborated to celebrate the day and alert the nation about the importance of the day.
In his keynote address Justice Dr. Binneh Kamara commended Campus Peace Club for celebrating the day, noting that they are all obliged to do so as citizens for the peace of the country.
According to Dr. Kamara the theme of the event cannot be discussed within a year. He maintained that they must adopt a strategy by putting into context salient issues pertaining to the topic that will help them come up with positive resolutions that can impact positively on the peace process in the country.
“Peace cannot be achieved entirely during our life time, we are only striving towards it if we are to understand it in a brotherly context,” Dr. Kamara said adding that the world was strapped in the midst of an inter-missile war that ended in 1945 with the formation of the United Nations.
