… President Bio expected to speak on new measures this week

The nationwide curfew that was imposed for an initial period of one month effective Monday 5th July 2021 from 11pm to 5am daily, has today 31st August, 2021 clocked two complete months.

It is expected that the President Julius Maada Bio will address the nation with new measures in the fight against COVID-19 anytime this week.

Wide expectations are that following recent successful results in the fight against the Virus in the country, with most parts of the country now reporting zero case of new infection, President Bio might lift the curfew in his soon expected address to the nation.

It can be recalled that the curfew and other restrictions were invoked as a result of more people testing positive for COVID-19, with more people being hospitalised and 72% of beds in treatment and care centres occupied in the last few weeks June this year.

After a successful fight against the first wave of the Virus, Sierra Leone was almost getting things into perspective when the second variant hit the country.

According to some people, whether the curfew was intended to get the citizens to sit tight against the Virus, it is now all irrelevant because many believe invoking curfew has nothing to do in the fight against COVID-19.

Controversially, unfolding events after the British government travel ban on Sierra Leone became so topical it questioned the integrity of the number of infections announced daily across Sierra Leone.

As it is now, many believe that lifting the curfew will address night life, businesses and livelihoods that have already been severely threatened since July 1, 2021.
