D J Clef’s Murder Trial…  Defense Lawyers Cross Examine Prosecution Witness

During cross examination by Counsel for the 2nd accused person, Pious Hemor Sesay before Justice Alusine Sesay of the High Court of Sierra Leon, on Monday 31st May 2016, the witness explained that the 3rd accused also told the police that, the deceased was later spotted with a slim and fair complexion lady outside the residence of the 1st accused, Baimaba Moi Foray on the very night of her birthday party.

She further disclosed that, she obtained statement from the 3rd accused person at the Family Support Unit of the Aberdeen Police Division in respect of the incident, and the 1st accused person was arrested by the police when he arrived at the station to bail the 3rd accused person, Avril Oredolah Renner.

Detective Police Constable Kudiatu Kamara intimated at a cross examination with Counsel for the 1st accused, I.P.Mamie that, Avril Oredolah Renner denied inviting the deceased, Sydney Buckle to her birthday party, and that the 1st accused person, Baimba Moi Foray desserted left the party together with his friends for a particular place at Kingtom, but she could not vividly recalled the nomenclature of the place in question.

She furthered that Avril Oredolah Renner went on to informed the police that, the 1st accused person had no extensive or friendly relationship with the deceased, Sydney Buckle even before her birthday party, adding that the 3rd accused person narrated that the 1st accused person later returned to his residence around 5 am  on the following Monday morning, noting that even though she saw the deceased the very night at her birthday party , she did not ask him out of the compound because she had known the deceased, Sydney Buckle for over a year.

Furthermore, the sixteen prosecution witness, Detective Police Constable Ibrahim Sorrie Kamara testified that he is attached to the Complain Discipline Internal Investigation Department (CDIID) Police Headquarters at George Street in Freetown and recalled 11 June 2015.

He informed his audience that, on the day in question he was on duty at the Homicide Syndicate Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters in Freetown and stated that, Inspector Abdul Jaiteh Kamara including himself obtained contemporaneous interview from the 1st and 2nd accused persons in respect of the alleged murder of a young, energetic and popular Freetown based socialite, Sydney Buckle also known as D J Clef.

The witness said, Inspector Jaiteh Kamara put questions to the 3rd accused person in Krio and recorded her responses in English, adding that at the conclusion of the interview statement, Inspector Jaiteh Kamara read it over and explained to her in Krio which she admitted to be true and correct and signed the statement in her own hand writing.

He asserted that Inspector Jaiteh Kamara including him eventually charged the 3rd accused person with the offence murder contrary to the laws of Sierra Leone and the charged statement was produced and tendered as part of the court evidence.

Detective Police Constable Ibrahim Sorrie Kamara was also mandated by the court to recapitulate the 3rd accused, Avril Oredolah Renner statement to the police for the general benefit and purpose of the adjudicating court officials.

 

At this juncture, the presiding Judge, Justice Alusine Sesay adjourned the matter to Tuesday 7th June 2016 for the testimony of one more prosecution witness.
