Share

Residents of Pipe Line in the hill top communities of Freetown have called on relevant authorities to save them from a collapsing bridge that has been described by many people as a ‘death trap’ to inhabitants.

The collapsing bridge links major communities including Fourah Bay College, Gloucester and Moyiba to the rest of the country.

Traditional Head on the Pipe Line Community, Chief Abubakarr Koroma said the bridge was constructed by the community through communal labor and has served for so many years without being renovated.

He said: “The total collapse of the bridge will caused lots of disturbances in the community. It will deprive residents, including pupils from attending classes and lectures whenever it rains heavily. The collapse of this bridge will also affect the movements of old people, children and pregnant women to access medical facilities. Whenever its rains heavily here, children are mostly reported drown when the water level is high”.

He appealed for government and philanthropists to come help them reconstruct the bridge and prevent pending disasters.

Kadiatu Mansaray is the Women’s Leader in the community. She explained how challenging accessing the collapsing bridge has been, especially to the women and children in the community, stating that they have been finding it very difficult to ply through especially at night.

Youth Chairman of the Pipe Line community, Alusine Sallieu Koroma added voice to the calls for authorities to come help them.
