The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Sengepoh Solomon Thomas, has called for better conditions of service and facilities of judges in Sierra Leone.
He made this call during the approval of seven high court and three appeal court judges in the House of Parliament over the weekend.
Hon. Thomas noted that year in year out, judges come to parliament for approval but they are not well catered for and that the public instead bashed at them.
According to him, it is surprising to note that judges in Sierra Leone are still writing in long hands whereas in other countries that have longed been forgotten about.
Hon. Thomas also pointed out that there are lots of judges that do not even have a better functioning vehicle and that there is not even an enabling environment.
He also noted that there are countries that are poorer than Sierra Leone but their judges are better catered for. For this he called on the House of Parliament to ensure a better provision is being made for judges, especially now that parliament is scrutinising the 2023 government budget.
The deputy speaker asserted that it is heart rendering that heads of Ministries, Department and Agencies are better catered for whiles judges are left unattended.
