Bidding farewell, President Koroma thanked the UK envoy for his contribution and support to the country during the most difficult times in fighting the Ebola outbreak. He acknowledged his efforts, intervention and budgetary support in ending the Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone.
As the implementation of post Ebola recovery programmes gathers momentum, President Koroma stated that government is on target in meeting the priorities set out in the recovery programme. The six to nine months recovery will end by early next year, he said, and noted that the 24 months recovery package will specifically target increased access to energy and water supply.
The president underscored the significance of commitment and the availability of resources as a critical aspect in meeting the targeted set of priorities in the recovery agenda, while recalling Marshall Elliot’s involvement in his nationwide social mobilization and mobilizing resources to fend off the evil virus. In a mood of happiness, he expressed hope that the UK point man will come some other time to enjoy the warm hospitality of Sierra Leone.
Marshall Elliot in his farewell statement said it was an honour and great experience to lead the UK mission in Sierra Leone supported by both military and civilians. He commended the leadership of President Koroma in ending the Ebola outbreak and in championing the recovery programmes.
The UK point man noted that the UK resilience agenda still continues in Sierra Leone with full support in aligning resources and expressed his satisfaction working with the presidential recovery team at State House.
