The coming in of Development Initiative Programme according to the Program Manager Felix Kpange is an emergency response support to slum affected communities in Sierra Leone like Kroo bay, Susans bay, Congo Cross Bridge Culvert and Kailahun District. The first phase of the support is over thirty million Leones worth of food items for children.
Kpange further said they were guided by the Office of National Security in terms of selecting the beneficiaries which he believes was transparent. He said the next support will be food and non food items for female headed households who lost their prosperities during the flood. (Check here) He however noted that the support will continue for a period three months for the children but pleaded for more donor support to continue the said exercise and take up new ones. He said the first phase of the emergency response is supported by their donor partner Terra Tech based in Germany.
Kpange added that they will continue with the distribution in Kailahun districts and will roll out the other support when funds are available stating that there are issues to be addressed in these communities but the availability of funding is one challenge they are faced with as an organization. He however pledged commitment to continue the kind of support as an organization when funding is available. Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the organization stating that burden has been lifted off their shoulders for the three months.
