Dozens of Pupils Stranded in Makeni

It can be recalled that one of the new School Buses in Makeni was seen parked in the premises of the Council on Thursday last week with a damaged back glass.

The Makeni City Council in official response, said on the night of 2nd October, the driver attached to the skip truck donated by Government was negotiating exit out of the Council premises for night duty when he accidentally hit the back of the bus which was parked together with the other 2 at the office premises and damaged the back glass.

The Council said the police was called immediately to report the incident and the matter was handed over to them for further investigations.

However, grounding of this bus created a huge gap in the transport system for the pupils as many of them who have received Le2,000 for transportation to and from school were unable to go to school.

Reports say some pupils were fortunate to get their parents to top up their transportation and hired private taxis while others have to return home and missed the day’s school.

Confirm reports from the Council say the authorities have vowed to fix the damaged vehicle and get it up and running by today, Monday so as to prevent a the ugly development from happening again.
