In a statement posted on his social media account on Thursday, August 17, 2023, Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, a prominent figure in Sierra Leone, emphasized the enduring history of mutual respect and shared aspirations between Sierra Leone and the United States. Sengeh, known for his commitment to education, human rights, and national development, asserted that the relationship between countries goes beyond individual egos or specific agendas.

“We invest 20% in education for our children. We strive to improve global corruption indices for our future. Our investments in girls’ education and human rights are investments in ourselves,” Sengeh declared, underlining the significance of national endeavors. He further emphasized that the sovereignty and security of the nation stand paramount.

Dr. Sengeh welcomed the establishment of an independent committee, led by the capable Vice President, to address election-related concerns and safeguard the integrity of future elections.

He also expressed satisfaction with the efforts of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion in facilitating constructive dialogues between the opposition and the government.

Dr. Sengeh commended the steady progress in Sierra Leone’s ambitious national investment and transformation plans.

In a pointed observation, Dr. Sengeh highlighted that African governments don’t wait for congratulatory messages from Western powers. He emphasized the equality of nations, regardless of economic disparities or external assistance.

He stressed that when foreign partners make provocative statements that could jeopardize security and democracy, supported by their own data and beliefs, there are inevitable consequences.

Dr. David Moinina Sengeh’s remarks reflect his unwavering commitment to Sierra Leone’s progress, the protection of its sovereignty, and the significance of constructive international relationships.
