The Chairman, Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREF) Hon. Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has held a successful meeting with Jens Kraus Masse’ the German Ambassador to Sierra Leone on possible German development cooperation in energy, agriculture and climate action.
The German Ambassador expressed his delight over meeting Hon. Yumkella and said, the German people are always ready to support the sustainable development efforts of the Government and people of Sierra Leone in the spheres of energy transition, food security and building climate resilience.
He emphasized the need for establishing coherence within government, and facilitating donor coordination to build synergies.
He welcomed the proposal to establish a Presidential Council for Energy Transition which he said will achieve the much needed coherence, coordination and to fastrack project implementation.
The two seasoned diplomats explored various project ideas, including rehabilitation of Mambolo seed multiplication system, the call for proposal for the Mitigation Action Facility, the upcoming Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue, the new WFP report on deforestation in the Western Area, and the critical need for private sector participation along agriculture value chains.
