National Chairman, SLPP, Chief Somanoh Kapen described the mood of the event as a somber one. He said the people of Sierra Leone are looking up to the SLPP to create the change they are yearning for. He said the SLPP should salvage the plights of the people from the state of decadence which he said is an herculean task and that will only be made possible when unity is evident in the party. He said the ruling All People’s Congress has always won elections on the faulty legs of the SLPP.
Chief Kapen said if only the SLPP should win elections, they must give maximum consideration to peace, unity and love.
Speaking during the dialogue meeting, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkellah said that the purpose of the meeting was to dialogue with the leadership of the SLPP. He pointed out that the party’s vision is unity which he said prompted the one people-one country slogan. The SLPP, he said should create a level playing field for every potential aspirant vying for the flagbearership of the party.
He said the founders of the party based its formation on tolerance, inclusiveness, justice, peace and unity. He urged the leaders of the party to teach the young generation the core values of the party which according to him, includes justice and respect for elders.
The former UN diplomat said the SLPP should be encouraging participatory democracy and not discriminatory democracy.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkellah’s membership has been certified by the Western Region Chairman of the SLPP, Hon. Manso Dumbuya. He has been a fully paid-up registered grand chief patron of the SLPP since 2013.
The meeting prior to its commencement was marred with violence between supporters of Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio and Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkellah which prompted the police to fire over eight canisters of tear gas.
