“People are dying every day is a result of lack of blood and there is no shop to buy blood, only donor and there is no amount of money to pay for blood. Voluntary blood donating blood is a lifesaving service anyone can render with passion without financial gain but with the hope of saving life.”
On Thursday 30th January 2018 Grace arrived at the National Blood Bank, Connaught hospital, Freetown in the company of Mr Massaquoi, and Mr Desmond Lewis who doubles as the National President of the Blood Association and the highest voluntary blood donor in Sierra Leone. In a bravery and passionate mode at the blood bank, she was counsel by the Blood Recruitment officer who later took me to the Phlebotomist to take my blood pressure, weigh her weight, test her blood to verify her blood group, percentage, status. Grace successful donated within the period of 5 minutes with a smile.
Responding to what is meant by Safe blood, the National President of the Blood association said “Safe blood is blood that does not contain any viruses, parasites, drugs, alcohol, chemical substances, or other extraneous factors that might cause harm, danger or disease to the recipient.
According to the Secretary General, Mr. Massaquoi: “Every second of every day, people around the world – of all ages and from all walks of life – need blood transfusions to survive”, while calling on all to take a step to voluntarily donate their precious blood.
